Champion Mentor Program
Welcome to the Champion Mentors program. We ask each one of our Champion Mentors to team-up, one-on-one, with an unemployed or under-employed mentee, with a special focus on veterans who are wounded, disabled or homeless. The goal of our mentors are not to provide a job to the mentees they work with, but to put their personal "networks" at the disposal of the mentees, so the veteran job-seekers or entrepreneurs can follow smart "networking" leads and find their own paths to success.
If you will volunteer to be a Champion Mentor, we would ask you to agree to do the following:
I agree to:
- Team up one-on-one with a veteran mentee who will be matched closely with the prospective mentor according to mutual interests
- Share my e-mail address with one mentee, and to field e-mails from the mentee on a regular basis (weekly, every 2-3 days, whatever works) according to a schedule set by the mentor
- Tap my personal networks (business and/or personal contacts) to identify people I know who will be willing to communicate with my mentee (via e-mail or phone) and help guide them on pathways to success
- Have one personal, face-to-face meeting with my mentee, but only if it is reasonably convenient for my mentee and me
- Field an occasional, short phone call from my mentee, to allow him/her a chance to report on progress following up with my network contacts
- Review my mentee's resume, and to make suggestions about how to improve it
- Post my resume or CV as a clickable item in my Champion Mentor Profile (so that veterans can see what a professional resume contains)
- Endeavor to help my mentee secure quality employment or start a business, within six months of teaming up
- Stay in touch with the mentee on a regular basis even after he/she finds a job or starts a business, and to remain a guide and advisor in years to come
